Yes. No one called World War 1 by the name World War 1 until after World War 2 started. It was called the Great War by most people. BTW, World War 2 was called The Great Patriotic War in the Soviet Union.

yes. it was known as the great war, untill the second world war, when its name was changed to the first world war

Yes they are the same thing. The great war was supposed to be the war to end all wars, but Adolph had other idea's about that.

Yup, they called it the Great War, but then changed it to WWI when there was a 2nd one.
