to paint, you need special hi temp paints and the prep that needs to go with it. eventually, these wear and come off
have you thought anbout ceramic coatings? try http://www.jet-hot.com.au/ and look at whats there. these coatings are heat resistant and look fantastic for ever

Most older car engines were painted from the factory to show oil leaks readily and to look nice or more finished than just plain metal which rusts. You can buy high-temp spray paint and primer at parts stores for that purpose but only for use on metal parts...plastic parts need special paint and primer to make them adhere and generally are not heat resistant....some may be though. Paint won't be flammable when dry but non high-temp paints will crack and peel. Fresh paint may smoke and smell for a while. Wrinkle finish paints look kinda cool also.

You need engine paint for the high heat of the engine. They sell it in spray cans at local automotive stores and hardware stores. You may find it cheaper to go to a home depot for it, but an automotive store may have more of a variety of colors. Careful what you get paint into and on. If you are unsure about something you can use masking tape to cover an area and also masking paper for larger areas. Good Luck.

no you cant, you need a high heat enamel for this the temperatures under the hood get really hot,and it will cause regular paint to peel off after a while ,the high heat engine paint will actually bake on,and say with it,good luck.
