You can't have internet access in both without a router. There's going to be an IP conflict.

The answer is... it all depends on the capabilites of the modem. Some modems are called "smart modems" and have the NAT function built inside of them. If the modem has NAT built into it, then you can connect a switch to it and get Internet on both. If not, then you will need to connect a router to the modem. You cannot use the Ethernet port and the USB port on the modem at the same time.

Technically yopu can connect both computers to the same cable modem but you will not be able to use them at the same time. This is because your cable modem only has one IP address to use and if one computer is on it is using that address and the other computer can't use it too. The reason you need a router is so that you have IP addresses for multiple computers (technical jargon left out). Long story short...No...you need a router.

you is in simple terms no longer waiting to split the cable information superhighway connection into 2 by hooking up 2 cable modems. The ISP has to outline a unmarried MAC address for it to allow information superhighway site visitors to. So the great element for you if on the spot doesnt paintings nicely is to hook up a unmarried modem and then take that connection to a swap (2 port or 4 port ) that splits the web connection. once it is executed you could hook up 2 pcs to this swap through ethernet cables.

I do ot believe so. If you do not want to put in a wireless router or router, you can put in a switch board. A small switch bord is around $15

Hope This Helps!

A switch will not work, you need a router.
