I'm surprised the computer store didn't fix it for you. If it came into my shop I would. :) Anyway, if it's a desktop system, you can connect the hard drive to another computer and copy the files. If the system is totally hosed, you can install windows on top of your existing windows to let you access the files. This is not recommended since it will make your system unstable. After you copy your files, you will need to do a clean format and re-install of windows. If you turn your computer on and it doesn't even show the BIOS menu, the computer store probably gave you a bad diagnosis. The video card is one of the first devices to boot. You should see the memory screen and then the screen for the video card. Did they test the video card. No signal usually means there is an issue with the video card. If you can, swap out the video card and see if you get a signal to the monitor. If it's an onboard video card, you are really in trouble. That means the motherboard is proabably bad. The good news is that usually that means your hard drive and data are okay.

Man, there is only one way to get your files back: get an antivirus, and let it work.

When a virus crashes your system, it has made up a very complex and difficult job, so it wont do it just for fun. The idea, in most of the cases, is to f**k your computer. There is a relative 'big' ammount of those kind of viruses, but that doesn't mean they aren't that worthless.

So what you need to do is this: get a good antivirus, and I mean it, a good one. Probably a one you need to pay for. Try on with Norton, McAfee, Panda or someother that really worths. Takin' care of a computer is like takin' care of a human: is easy to maintain it with a couple of infections, but when it gets really screwed it's very hard to fix it.

If you're lucky, your computer will get fixed. If the virus was to hard, and it damaged your hard drive physically, then there is nothing to do. It's better to get another computer than to pay for the fix on the older one.

If your computer saves, recovering your files is very easy: all the antivirus that I mentioned you have a very easy and nice way to do it. If, for some reason, they don't work, just Google 'harddrive recovery' and choose the best tool for you.

If you decide to buy an antivirus, remember to keep it workin' always, and to maintain the basic security rules: don't open strange attached e-mail files from unknown e-mail addresses, don't click on 'accept' when a pop-up window tells you that a strange is trying to access your computer, try to scan flash memory's that had been connected to other computers, and most of all, never open a .exe file called 'Cheap Viagra' or 'Free Porn'.

Good luck, and hope to have been useful.

With windows xp you can do a system restore. If you are not running XP you can by a file recovery software for about $100 at any computer store. System resore may not restore all files. I reccomend the recovery software, you can pick what to recover. If you cant get in to the computer to run the software, I don't know.

Hope This Helps

i could probably try it.. but i'd have to be there.. again too difficult. google for 'saving files crashed computer' or stuff like that im sure u'd find some site that would let u recover files. it also depends on the version of xp or whatever ur using.. early versions of xp has a hole that lets u copy files.. so just google it.
