Halloween - broken down the first part is hallo - means holy and the second part is ween - which means evening. So Halloween is a Holy-evening, and happens to be the holy evening before All Saints day which is Nov. 1 and then All Souls day which is celebrated Nov. 2nd. Some people say that it is the devils holiday, but this is how it was broken down to me during religon classes. I am a Roman Catholic. I hope this helps you. Also, remember that November is the month to remember the dead. This holiday leads to these celebrations (feasts).

Well, I was raised a Polish Catholic and I never heard that, but I do know that other faiths and traditions celebrate holidays on the same date, Oct 31st, and some of them are not Christian and honor things that Christians find repulsive, evil or inappropriate.
Sometimes, in an effort to stay far away from those practices and to not confuse the children, Christians will not do anything on that day that might be construed as "celebration".
I believe it is also Reformation day, which is anathema to Catholics, as it was the beginning of the Protestant movement.

Hey, I'm polish and catholic as well... Well Halloween is a holiday where "people" act like they're honoring the devil... I asked my religion teacher (he's also polish) and he said that celebrating Halloween is a sin! My whole family thinks the same way too! I guess it's because of the decorations- they're all very disturbing, plus polish people are very religious and believe in God very much- Halloween?- um no!
If you ask me- I'm staying away from it!

Halloween is actually like Christmas Eve. The night before a Christian holy day.
It is the eve of All Saint's Day or All Hallows Eve or Halloween. Just like "hallowed be Thy name."
But just like Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday), Halloween has taken on a life of its own.
Christians including Catholics do not fear death, evil, or Satan. In Christ, we can laugh in the face of death.
From an email I received: Being a Christian is like being a pumpkin. God lifts you up, takes you in, and washes all the dirt off of you. He opens you up, touches you deep inside, and scoops out all the yucky stuff--including the seeds of doubt, hate, greed, etc. Then He carves you a new smiling face and puts His light inside you to shine for all the world to see.
And finally, Halloween is fun. Create your own Jack-o-Lantern: http://www.coasttocoastam.com/timages/page/pumpkin_sim.html
With love in Christ.
