If the Compaq Proliant server's motherboard will support either non-ECC, or ECC, yes. If not, don't do it! You may be in a pinch, and ECC memory may cost more, but is it worth the server going poof? ECC memory has one more chip in it, this is what it uses to check the instructions with. Error Detection Correction. Cost's more to produce. Home computers don't need to check, and re-check info,(instructions), so why spend more, is what the manufacturer's deemed. Logical,( less cost, and doesn't slow the system down, by checking twice)
