if oil has saturated the bendix, then the bendix probably wont conduct electricity which turns the starters driveshaft. oil is not a very good conductor of electricity

There should be at least a click sound if not then check the battery connection at both ends , the GM also has an in-line fuseable link that will cause what you described as well. If you think its the starter remove it and have it checked, its easy to remove. Good Luck and God Bless

If your battery i sfully charged and nis in goog shape it should test 13.8 volts with a volt meter. Me sure both ground and positive battery cables are clean and tight. The last thing to check is the starter or starter solonoid. Unfortunately you 'll need to remove the starter and take it and take it to Auto Zone or auto electric shop for testing.
If a new re-manufactured starter is necessary, call around for prices and warrantys. AC Delco re-man starters have a lifetime warranty but cost a tad more than most.

Oil could foul the brushes on the armature. you should be able to spray it out with some brake cleaner and it should work. Wear safety glasses because the break cleaner comes out fast.
