Like Davis C said above, 350 is a pretty good speed, though not for a BB gun. If you are looking for an Airsoft gun, which uses primarily plastic pellets, 350 is good, though I have seen up to 600. If you want a BB gun, which you might get for hunting small game or killing an annoying crow or two, then they between 600 and 100 fps is a much better speed. You should use an airsoft gun if you're gonna play with friends, because they are designed specifically for that purpose and will not break the skin.
350 fps will sting, but not for too long and will not break skin from even 15 feet. At 90 feet it will be pretty hard to hit a target, since the pellets are so light.

Well, 290ft is 10 feet short of the length of a football field. or 100 yard dash. Thats about 9 times faster than the world record for the 100 yard dash. Or multiplying by 3600 (seconds in an hour) and dividing by 5280 (ft in a mile) you will find it is about 198 miles/hr.
