Not to sure why you lost your fish, but a tip; whenever I get fish from a pet shop, I test the pH in the bag they are in and test the pH of my tank. Depending on the difference lets me know how long to acclimate the new fish, Just slowly adding water from my tank to the bag to slowly let the fish adapt to my pH. I keep African cichlids and keep the pH at 7.8 (which is what is recommended) and I have gotten new fish before and tested the bag and it has been as low as 6.2. So it took hours to get the fish acclimated to the pH in my tank safely. Just though I might share this to maybe make your getting another new fish a little better. Good luck.

If they are alive and healthy looking at the store, the water they are in there is evidently OK. As far as acclimating them when you come home, don't worry about all that pH mess.....that's old school Just float the bag for about 10 minutes, the dip the fish out of the bag and put directly in your tank. DON"T put the bag water into your tank! The fish themselves have the ability to handle the pH difference, if there is any. I have 82 tanks to maintain, and I have no problems at all with moving fish around, introducing new fish, etc.

Bala sharks and catfish are fairly aggressive fish. Depending on the size and type of fish you already own they may be picking on the new fish because they maybe smaller or weeker. Remember when you put new fish in a tank to keep them in the plastic bag for at least 1/2 hour..... Bala Sharks and Catfish need to be in approx 72-82 degrees. SOme pet stores guarentee there fish ask them how long there guarentee is.

the water you have in your tank might not be good for them. We have both and didn't have any problems with them dying. We always make sure to first put the bag with the new fish in the fish tank (with the fish still in the bag) for about 30 minutes for the temperatures to even out, then we add some of the tank water in the bag and wait another 30 minutes or so and then we let the new fish out. Also, we always put a bit of API Tap Water Conditioner in anytime we add new fist in the tank. Don't usually have any problems with fish dying unless they are actually sick already.

2 reasons

1) petsmart sells fish that are geneticlly inferior, and chances are, they are doomed b4 you even bring them home

2) bala sharks need a 100g tank.

i've bought the same and they lived.but, my mom just bought some fish there and they died.i think it's because they don't take care of them properly.i've hardly ever seen people cleaning the tanks.also, it might just be from where they get them
