A newer Honda with manual transmission. That is an economy car, good gas mileage not performance.

don't. get another car. The biggest problem is the automatic part. You can spend some money putting on headers, exhaust system, etc etc but it will be a waste of money because anybody can just buy a different car that is faster out of the factory. I think that if you want a fast car it is easier and better to start with a fast car. Then you can make it even faster with the after market parts. Racing and cars in general is a hobby and a very expensive one at that. The guy with the most money usually wins. Plus the more you modify your car the more likely it is to break. It is not just a matter of adding better parts but there is also an upkeep.

My advice is to start with a car that has a manual transmision. Also, let this car be one of those that people have previously modified. This will make it easier to find aftermarket parts. I would then do half and half. By this I mean yes, make your car faster but also make it look good. Racing is a never ending hobby. You will be modifying your car constantly and it will be expensive. I would be best to spend that money in something else. Maybe a house or some sort of investment. You see a car is worth crap. No matter how much you spend on it you will never get that money back. Lets say you buy $7,000 used car. You put on it $10,000 worth of aftermarket. Well, if you did not have the $10,000 at one shot this means that a few years must have gone by before you finally put on the $10,000 on it. By that time the car might be worth $1,000. SO, you have spent $17,000 on a car that is only worth $1,000. So, maybe you can sell it for $3,000 but why would I want to do that. Why would anybody buy and old race car that will be very likely to break. I mean if its a race car it must have taken a beating. It is simply a bad investment.

ok, so first off...the whole automatic thing is a bad idea to keep in there, but no fear because in order to be fast, youre going to have to do a swap anyways...so converting the d16 that is probably in it now, to a b18 or a b16 or even an h22 would be the first item on the agenda...however that is very pricey, and good luck finding a shop to do it, if you're not planning on doing it yourself...or i suppose depending on what engine is in it now, you could get a b16/18 head and throw it on the d16 block, add a turbo, and your transmission wont last more than 5000 miles...so in a nut shell...get a front clip online somewhere with a swap compatible car, and go at it...its gonna take you a while to complete it so you may want to get a daily driver for the time being...if you have any questions about the swap let me know bc i have a 2000 ex with a b18c5 swap that is bone stock(other than the swap) and runs 13.9's all day. basically break it down into steps.
1. find which engine you want
2. buy the engine
3. get mounts, clutch, all the cables and harnesses you will need to complete the swap
4. install
5. have fun...provided that you did everything correctly...lol

OH...and one last thing, my buddy has a d15 running about 22-25 pounds of boost in an old crx that runs 12's on street tires, total cost of the build was only like 3500 dollars, so if you have contacts, and you are mechanical, it wont cost you much at all...but then again, there were 3 of us working on this car for 4 months to get it to the condition it is in now...so good luck

Don't forget a big wing on the back to take away traction from those useless front wheels.
