some baby's umbilical cord can get smelly, but the goopy stuff is not normal. The best thing to do is wash the umbilical cord and around the area with warm salt water and keep it as dry as possible. The cord should be coming off pretty soon and even after it's off remember to clean and keep it dry. Use a cotton stick it works better. (well, it worked for my three children).

My son's umbillical cord smelled, and it wound up being infected. He had to be put on antbiotics by his dr. He was only 6 days old. Bring her in b/c it definately sounds infected.

Is it a really bad smell? I don't think it should smell or be goopy. It could be infected. You need to take her to the dr asap!

Foul smell and goopy stuff is sign of infection.
Go have it looked at before it becomes a bigger problem.

I would immediately call THE DOCTOR !
That could be a sign of an infection and could give her blood poisoning... Get off the computer .

Usually a bad smell means it is infected, I would discuss treatment with a doctor.

It is not suppossed to smell. It might be infected. I would make an appointment with the Dr., or at least call and ask the nurse about it.
