It's early preparation and footwork. First always bring your racquet back as early as possible and drop the racquet low-think justin henin. If your racquet is anywhere near waist level when you bring it back, it is too high. Drive the ball in an upward motion and follow through on your shot. Of course your feet must be planted on the court and your motion is forward.. never lean back on a backhand.

My coach sucks as well... but he did tell me to follow through from low to high on a one handed backhand. It gives more control and the angle should be more accurate (on ground strokes). If you want to see a really good one handed backhand watch Richard Gasquet's<3

to make a wonderful backhand stroke is first work on your gripping, so that when you do a one hand backhand your hand wont slip making the ball fly or out. 1 technique so you wont be confuse is your service grip can be your backhand grip. This is used bu other players so that they wont be confuse. Try this technique this is what i do.

Also, one of the key points to the best backhand, is hip rotation. As you know, keep your eye on the ball, step into your shot and as you begin your swing, rotate your hips, but remember to stay as low as you can through the whole process! Good luck!!!!

It sounds like you're looking for power before you've gained control. Ease back on the power develope consistancy through proper foot work and racquet preparation . Get the ball consistantly into court , confidence builds fluency which becomes power

to have a one hander you have to have some esential things
you HAVE to have a strong arm, 3 sets in you can't be tired.
you HAVE HAVE HAVE HAVE HAVE to hit the ball WAY out in front. that sounds simple but with the 2 hander you can get away with hitting it late. if you REALLY focus on hitting it really far out in front it will take you far.
