It seems to me that you have two choices, either quit, or let go of the things that annoy you about him. Remember that if he is truly as ignorant as you say. then he is not worthy of making you miserable. Try to see the humor in his actions as opposed to being annoyed by him. Remember that he is a small man in a position that he will likely be in for the rest of his life. You have the potential to grow beyond him if you maintain a positive spin on things.

Some ideas that would have helped me.

Try to avoid working in a group where you're not surrounded by good people. Sometimes I had a choice, but chose to work with an undesirable.

Try to get things in writing so they are sighted by the top boss.
If you are being asked to do something, why aren't the directions in writing, signed by the top boss for good measure ? If you can find one instance in the registry system of such a directive, it may be easy to ask for a directive in writing. You can then info the top boss indicating problems as you see them.

- also, may be able to educate such individuals to solve their own problems without involving you.

I think Gee is mistaken. Generally individuals like the person you mention think nothing of ousting their own boss, or ousting a fellow deputy director. They survive because people don't see through them. You have spotted him as a massive phony - most people don't till the organisation has shut down.

I think "globar" is correct.

Has the person made lots of collosal blunders ? (Typically they have). Can this be brought to the attention of the
organisation ?

Did they foul something up, very early in the project, and been subsequently covering up ?

Unfortunately there are people like this. "The acid test of a democracy is the protection it affords to the most contemptible of human beings" {Judge Michael Kirby, in Australia, said words to that effect}.

Treason doth never prosper: what's the reason? Why if it prosper, none dare call it treason.

Dunno what line of work this moron is in. But some people like this are "treasonous". They'd think nothing of swapping Left and Right steer controls for, for example, a torpedo, and then shipping the system with some sort of note to watch how the system behaves at sea.

Well, if you want to then quit... OR
Ask yourself these questions

Do I NEED this job?
Do I get paid enough to put up with this?
Could I get a different job getting paid the same?
Despite the boss, do I enjoy my job?
Could I find a job doing the same thing just with different management?
Could you possibly get him fired by reporting him?
Do you really love money this much?

Depending on YOUR answers, then YOU can decide whether or not YOU need to quit YOUR job.
Thanks for posting the question GOOD LUCK.

Usually they are there either cos they are suck ups or through longevity...they seem to have an uncanny instinct when they feel threatened by someone like you..even though you might not want his job they know they shouldn't even be there so will try to get rid if people around them ..if you want this job ..figure out a way to circumvent his @ss..do not let the barsteward win..Good Luck

Have you heard of the "Peter principal"? This is demonstrated when people are promoted to a higher level of incompetency.
Hang in there.

This might work for you it is not easy. I gave it to one of my co workers and it worked for her.

Be nice. If this guy is giving you all the junk be nice. If he is always saying things be nice.

If you fight it he can make it worse. If your nice he can't do anything. How do you fight NICE? You don't you have to be good to it.
