do you have to have to be near a router when using ipod touch web browsing?

i was wondering this because alot of ppl have said yes and alot of ppl have said no but on the iphone i know my friends browses web at school and it is suppose to be secured

From what I have read about the Ipod touch. It connects to a internet connection that has Wi-Fi (wireless internet). That means you can connect anywhere in your house through your home network or at any location that offers wireless internet such as Starbucks, Kinkos, McDonalds, Airports or hotels. Remember some of these places will charge you by the day or hour and there are some areas that offers wireless internet for free.
