I work in a children's library so forgive me that the first three books listed are youth novels, but the last is an adult novel and one of my all time favorite books.

Where the Red Fern Grows, by Wilson Rawls. I read this book twice- once in 1st grade and the next in 5th grade. It's probably the only book that has really made me cry twice.
The Kite Runner, by Khaled Hosseini. I found it awfully sad at some parts.

You have to read Anne of Green Gables. Maybe a little challenging vocab, but overall it has lots of emotional parts that will make you think, cry, laugh and so on. READ THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
