I'm thinking of running a 200ft ethernet cable through my house to an upstairs room. It will go from a Linksys WRT54G to an Xbox 360. Will this slow down the connection a lot because of the length? And DO NOT tell me to go wireless or anything else.

200 feet is fine. You start to get signal degradation at 100 meters or at a little over 300 feet.

Wireless would be more convenient. You would just need to get a wireless adapter for the 360 and a signal booster that plugs in to an electrical outlet. It just wouldn't be as fast, obviously.

Brandon

The official specification says that 100 meters is the maximum allowable length of an Ethernet cable. That's over 300 feet, so you should be fine.

Currently I'm running a 150 foot cable at home with no problem.

As everyone who have answered u now know that 100m is the length supported but u can have 500m ethernet cable using the 5-4-3 rule...
though in your case 200ft is less that the max lenght...
go ahead with it. as far as i am concerned wireless is not worth connecting to XBox....

cheers

More than 100 meters is too long.

100m for utp and 600ft (185m) for thinnet. your router may not have thinnet port in it
