I'm ALWAYS impressed by bands with only two, or three members that make a lot of noise and sound really great.
Can you list any at the top of your head? No soloists. Two is the minimum.
...there are some obvious ones like the YYY's and
the White Stripes (depending on how much credit you're willing to give them) ...

I'm very intrigued by the Violent Femmes and I believe they were a three piece as mentioned. I really have to get their debut.
The last half of the Zeros career they were a three piece. And they put out some great stuff in that encarnation.
Apparently Steve Jones played most if not all of the bass on Never Mind The Bollocks Here's The Sex Pistols, so even thought the Sex Pistols weren't a three man band that's still a three man album so I'll count it. If you do 't believe me watch this Guitar Hero III promo: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=1lJU_QxY8Kc
And I don't think anyone's said the Jam yet. And they certainly deserve a mention. Not only do they rawk, I'd say they totally RAWX!
I came back to edit in the meat puppets because I thought I'd be the first : /
Damn.

Local H produce an amazing amount of noise for only two people. I've seen them live and my ears felt like they were assaulted it was so painfully loud. But they put on a good show.
Dresden Dolls might be a cool cabaret act but they don't "rawk" according to the definition of noise. Seen them too and you could hear people whispering on the other side of the concert hall.
Go Betty Go is a three piece riot grrl act out of LA .

I know Muse have already been mentioned, but they're worth another mention. They'd definitely be top of my list.
Also Mates of State, although kind of poppy, still make a lot of noise for just two people.
And how about Nada Surf, I think they're a three-piece.
Edit:
Just thought of another one. Wolfmother are a three piece, and they absolutely rock!
**Damn, someone said them already too. It's not fair, I'm in a different time zone :(
OK, how about the Klaxons. They're essentially a three-piece, although they have a drummer for gigs.
One last addition, Manic Street Preachers. OK, I'll shut up now :)

The Police
The Doors
Jimi Hendrix Experience
ZZ Top
Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young (3 of the 4 as the normal changing line-up, CSN&Y was off and on as a 4 piece)
A little dated compared to the bands you listed-

A band called House Of Freaks (2-man band) from the late 80's absolutely Rocked! I saw them live once and they literally shook the auditorium! No other 2-man band has impressed me as such since.

The Beegees!
My personal favorite: Hunter Valentine.
They're not very famous, but depending on what kind of music you like, they're amazing. Get Staten Island Dream Tour. It's a deadly song.

I know that he's a soloist,
but I think Beck should be allowed on this list,
when I learned it was all 1 person,
I was absolutely shocked.
Sounds like he's just the singer for sure,
and theres a band with him,
or at least somebody else,
but nope,
it's all him.
