to overcome shyness, i decided to volunteer at the hospital...what else can i do?? i like being an introvert, but i have to make adjustments for the club (and not be shy).. i want to be a good leader for the members...

Let the role unfold for you. Just being leader will open up opportunities on their own, not requiring your having to take the lead of introduction or striking up a conversation. There will be questions for you, ideas to share with you, you'd be surprised at how membership will want your attn.

Volunteering is a good way to improve on your social skills. I'm sure your confidence (with which you were elected) and your willingness to help people will bring everything to fruition. Just don't stress or worry too much about the membership.

Barbara Walters wrote an excellent book "How to Talk to Almost Anyone" (or something like that). It will teach you how to go up to anyone, without fear, and talk to them. It changed my life. I, too, was shy around strangers. My job required me to participate in hospitality events. Her book actually got me a huge raise because of my performance. She tells you what people like to hear, and gives lots of examples of what you can say when meeting a CEO, a mayor, biker dude, or new neighbor. Good luck
