made me and intended me to be. A deodorant is necessary whether one does or does not shave under their arms, so it makes no sense to disfigure God's creation with a razor. Women the world over are admired, not for hair on their legs, perhaps, but definitely for their underarm hair! Do you think the American fear is just another overaction to religion in America, and the way that Preachers like to impose their wills on women?

a woman begins to grow hair under her arms and on her pubis at puberty.

american culture and society has always been deeply uncomfortable with puberty; shaving is one way of pretending it hasn't happened.

....

incidentally the idea that an adult woman smells bad, and needs to wear a deodorant, is another fear-of-adult-sexuality marker.

an adult woman who keeps herself reasonably clean smells of adult woman. this is a good smell, unless you have issues.

women who wear deodorants on the other hand smell of hydrogenated castor oil, 18-36 acid trygliceride, stearath or stearyl alcohol (the main carrier fragrances in most commercial deodorants).

only an american could think industrial waste smells better than a grown-up woman.

I shave my arm pits because, hair holds the bacteria and oils more which cause the smell. I shave solely to cut down on any chance of having body odor. And it works.

I have gone to church my whole life and have never heard a preacher talk about shaving underarms. I shave them, but more because that's an American norm than any other reason.

Heheee, that's tickled my funny-bone.
Okay, I have tried not shaving under my arms to see what it looks like with hair their, but after 3 days, was thoroughly disgusted by what I saw.
Besides, I don't shave for anyone else, it's for me, I like to be clean and tidy with arms and legs.
Would scare alot of little children if I didn't shave.

Funny. Hon, I could not care less what strange men want from my grooming habits. I shave, because that's my preference. I'll file away any opinions on whether I shave myself under "more crap I care nothing about."

Really, where are the questions about what male facial hair MEANS..?

Americans just don't get out much - see what the rest of the world is about. I have no issue with body hair and think it's absurd how most American's haven't stopped at just shaving their bodies - because now they're shaving their heads. It's actually kinda funny - like, HAIR IS THE ENEMY - IT MUST BE RID OF!

EDIT - to Sarah; I'm not criticizing what you do in your bathroom, I'm stating an opinion - mine - which you don't need to criticize. Deal?

Sure sure. I agree that women should stop conforming to society's archaic ideals on how men and women are "supposed to look."

"overaction to religion in America"

lol. Quite frankly, I think fundamentalists religions are a major problem in America. Gay rights still hasn't even been allotted because some religious bigots want to impress their views upon everyone. That's a whole other topic, though...

The French love female underarm hair...

I am a woman and have never shaved my underarms. I believe everything on your body is there for a purpose. Just because you don't know the reason, doesn't make it moot.

well....i shave them because frankly, they smell bad if i don't. also, even though i shave, i am still the way God made me. i mean, is anyone ever truly "the way God made them" only if they dont change anything about them? plenty of people cut their hair to make it easier to manage and get suntanned from being outside. some things just "happen" or need to happen to make life easier. i don't think that makes you any less of how God made you.

Kessie, I've been through 5 continents and lived on 3, but I still shave. I won't peek in your bathroom window and criticize your decision, if you'll do the same for me. Deal?
