Wow-pretty broad. (wait, I mean the topic, not the Queen! ;-)

A truly Protestant monarchy in England.

An independent woman monarch, one of the first (maybe first) in the West. Never married, likely had many paramours, but still very unique for when she lived.

Balance to the Spanish/Holy Roman Empire at a time when almost all of the rest of Europe was Catholic or Orthodox. This included British privateers (nice name for pirates) like Sir Francis Drake.

Part of the line of Kings and Queens that built "The sun never sets on" the British Empire that peaked around Queen Victoria's day.

Probably missing something, but that college class was two decades ago! War Eagle!

queen Elizabeth I established order in the Roman Catholic Church during the Reformation. She made it so that it was ok for english to replace latin in church and ended up compromising other things in the church to resolve bloodshed and anger that would have followed suite if she hadn't stepped in. This was called the Elizabethan settlement.
