I love that movie....
...you cant really describe what makes it so great...its just is.
All in all, i dont think there is a single dull moment in the entire movie.

most people have thought of being a vigilante at one time or another.
plus for some reason when ever I see the scene where Rocco shoots the cat I can't help but to laugh hysterically.

It gives you a feel for the ethnic character of Boston and the Irish people. It gives you an insight into the Catholic church. Its good versus evil, man versus monster. Its a little of the ultra-violence, like on "A clockword orange."

Other than those reasons you described are the realism factor to it. They are just avergae guys doing something that seems what anyone could do. Not just off the wall shooting and crazy crap going on. One of my favorite movies.

The concept of the laws of God being higher than the laws of man. I never thought of that, till my first time seeing this amazing movie.
