Hey Steve,

My two cents time. Since I stay mostly in DIY; yet canvas all topics of interest I think the balance is neglibible.

An example certainly in an imbalance might be topics strictly defined by gender. I certainly might not be as able to answer a Q about womens health issues as other women might.

In a DIY sense and with no offense to either gender; it fluctuates. I suspect in 2007 there are many single; and married/partnered women; who want to know; or at least get opinions from both genders regarding HOW TO.

That might be lopsided by the fact that some women have no real help in DIY issues; even with a mate; who might be sitting on the couch watching Monday Night Football; as his Female counterpart is fixing the clog in the kitchen sink?

Ot it might be lopsided in that My gender is here asking, to keep the peace at home?

Certainly in the DIY sense; the initial thought is savings; although I get a lot of calls to RE-DO something that was attempted by either gender.

Better might be; that either gender "fesses up" to those things they have little knowledge about; hence adding to the Q & A base, in both genders.

Don't ask me what it feels like to endure 36 hours of labor to deliver a baby; or how to effectively get a sewing machine to work when one is creating a Quilt.... AND no offense to guys who sew, BTW. Perhaps consider that a female asking what tool to use to fix a sink drain is just her desire to learn.

I've known quite a few Great female "Mechanics" in my lifetime.

Great Question

I don't think there is any way to accurately assess the ratio of men to women on this site. For one thing, you can't really be sure if the person is truthful in his/her profile as to whether they are male or female. Many people use completely generic names and can be anyone (or any sex) they choose on the internet.

I can't answer- but my hypothesis would be more men on Yahoo. Pew Internet & Life Project still reflects that in most cases more men then women are participating in internet activities. “The % of women using the internet still lags slightly behind the % of men. Women under 30 and black women outpace their male peers, older women trail dramatically. A large percentage of women’s online time is spent communicating with people they already know. Men are more avid consumers than women of online information. Men look for information on a wider variety of topics and issues than women do. Men are more likely than women to use the internet as a destination for recreation. Men are more likely to gather information related to hobbies.

are not women folk meant to be extra chatty than men? And if men have much less entertainment time than women folk then yea, i might think of lively women folk outnumber men, here on Yahoo! solutions, significantly.

There must be more men answering the questions as men think they know everything and there are more woman asking stupid questions as they know that men know everything.
So back to the question "What is the ratio of women to men on Yahoo answers?"
I recon its about 50/50 mate

Well, as no one is chained to YA 24 hours a day, I'm sure the ratio changes regularly, even if anyone could figure out what it was. (You don't need to identify your gender to sign up for an account, so there would be no way to know.)
