You must have a filter for every phone connected to your phonelines if you have DSL (but do not filter the DSL line itself) to avoid having the phones interfere with the DSL signal.

Apparently so.

I have Verizon DSL and was having some technical issues. They sent a tech to the house and he tested all the phone outlets in the house (which had the Verizon filters installed) and then went outside and installed a new telephone box on the side of the house with filtration built into it.

He had me remove the filters inside the house afterwards.

Essential for the dsl modem/router and every piece of phone equipment connected, otherwise you get noise on the phones and the phones can interrupt your connection.

If it's DSL , yes. It cuts the noise on the line when someone is talking on the telephone.

only if you have a phone plugged in, if it's purely a line for broadband and it's the only line you have then it won't matter, however they are usually given away free with new routers anyway so you may as well plug it into the system.
