The cost of the Iraq war so far is about $450 billion. There are about 300 million people in the U.S. Do the math. Getting expensive isn't ?
Of course we won't have to pay.....our nation's children will. How considerate of us.

I guess what I should say is that we have SPENT $1,500 per person for the Iraq war.

So it seems that some of you might be willing to admit that we have spent $1,500 per American to destabalize Iraq thus increasing the threat of terrorism. Iraq didn't have WMDs. Iraq didn't attack us on 9/11.
But now we have apparently spent money to increase the anger of terrorists for an unjustified invasion so we can be attacked again.

Those of you that are saying that the Iraq war has cost in the trillions are confused. That is the PROJECTED costs. That's how much we will eventually spend by the war's end. But your point is well taken...we will spend more and more and..

Yeah, and let's not forget our soldiers. Some of them are paying a MUCH higher price. They are paying with their lives. This war is getting VERY expensive.

RLP, I wish I could also select a Worst Answer and have 10 points deducted from your account as a result.
Some wars are necessary, this one wasn't ! The surge has not and will not work. Bush has mismanaged this war beyond repair.

Take it further many economists say that by the conclusion of the war it will cost each of us $8,000.00 and that doesn't include the idiocy of attacking Iran at the moment republicans write checks that our children will have to cash unless we do something SOON

Now lets ask our self what the money is being used for? Now yes there is a lot of wasted money, and yes if we didn't go to war our nation would have that money. Now the money we spent on the war each probably saved a life. I think a life is worth more then 1500 dollars. How about You? We can not do anything about what happened in the past but we can at least send the money to give to the American soldier to protect themselves.
Like I said before in other posts that only 1million out of 300 million population serve in the Armed forces. It is not a big price to pay for their protection that they have volunteered to do. They have done things that no other American will ever do and have done things for a greater cause instead of thinking of themselves.
Too many people think of themselves to much and do not look at the whole picture. I have been there and I am a Vet. Whether I agree with the war or not, I know that I have contributed to a larger cause other then myself. JFK said is not what the country can do for you but what you can do for the country.

Your estimate is probably low but your point is well taken. Most of the money we are burning over there is borrowed as well which is why the tax rates have not skyrocketed. I'm not sure when we will start paying all this back but there will be some lean times ahead. The other problem is that all the machinery we are using over there is wearing out so the services have to recapitalize the arsenal which is also very expensive. Those bills haven't even hit yet.

With your reasoning we shouldn't have fought in the Revolutionary War, WWI and II, the Korean War, Vietnam...
Wars suck - everyone agrees they do. SOME just happen to be necessary. This one is. I want the troops home soon too. I hear the surge is working and we continue to train Iraqis to take over their own country.
Did you liberals lose ALL you compassion along the way...didn't we liberate millions of people from and EVIL DICTATOR who tortured them for fun? Yeah...I think we did.

No that is a bullshit calculation. Most of the money stays in America, in addition to that you get Iraqi Oil. The same type of calculations were used during colonization. The colonized countries were asked to pay back the money for literally no service. The same is happening to Iraq.

Probably a lot more for the average person, when you factor in all the tax cuts to the rich that have to come from everyone else.

Your figure is different from the $8000 that was in the news last week. You say 300 million last week it was 2.4 trillion.
