Do you think the name Tequila?
Why do people not like the name Tequila, but they like the name Brandy, they are both drinks.
Neither have to be refered to as drinks, yet people state that its a bad name for it is a type of drink.
OPPINIONS PLEASE!
Thanks

I don't like either name just because they remind me of the drinks.

If I were to name a child, I would pick a name that reminded me of something pleasant, wouldn't you? Even if an unpleasant name is meant to be pleasant, that doesn't make it pleasant.

Example: If I were to name a boy Pig without meaning the actual animal, would that make the name any better? It, of course, would not.

I personally think Tequila is very trashy sounding. I can't imagine a successful professional named Tequila.

As for "Brandy" I have seen it as being described as the feminine version of Brandon, though I think that may be just people that like the name and dont want to name then after the drink. And my sister's name is Shari, and my mom purposely spelled it that way because Sherry is a drink as well.

Tequila is the name of an area in Mexico, and I suppose could be equated to naming a child Dakota, but there also isnt any kind of drink called Dakota like there is for other place/drink names like Tequila, Burgundy, Champagne, Chianti, etc.

A lot of the reason for the hypocrisy regarding it is what we have been socialized with. We have grown to accept Brandy and Sherry more as names than drinks. Tequila is almost solely thought of as a drink.

haha i see what u mean with the whole Brandy thing!!

But , ppl automatically think Tequila as a drink but Brandy is milder name and was probably a name b4 a drink. Also Tequila is kind of a bad thing to nae a child because think of the jokes and her name on applications or something ppl are gonna automatically reject it. But if wasn't like that it would be a pretty name!

Etymology: Spanish, from Tequila, town in Jalisco state, Mexico
Date: 1849
: a Mexican liquor distilled from the fermented sap of an agave (Agave tequilana)

This is not a normal name. Anyways all the woman I know named Tequila (2) are not considered ladies per say. And neither were leagally born Tequila, one paid to have her name changed to it and the other is a nickname for over 10yrs. I don't like it. Or Brandy. Love both drinks but not as a name.

honestly i really love the name tequila and not because of the drink or 'TILA TEQUILA' or any reason its just not a name you hear everyday and i like things a little different every now and then. i am also from a small [judgemental] town but i think i stand alone because i have my own opinions. dont let others make your mind for you. if you personally like the name tequila [or brandy- which i also like that name] then use the name you like!

best of luck to you!!!!

Frankly, I don't care for Brandy either. LOL The point isn't that you don't feel the name would be "after" the liquor, but rather than nearly EVERY person who ever hears it will immediately assume it is. And that's not generally the most well-thought-out way to name a child. After all, you aren't the one that has to deal with the snickers, embarrassment and crude remarks throughout your entire life. So while you may think it a "cool" or "unique" choice, everyone else -- the child included -- will clearly see what a selfish, rather than thoughtful, choice it was.

And unlike certain others that might have alcoholic associations this doesn't even have the advantage of simply being a surname turned brand. A place name, yes, but one that has come to be largely associated with this particular liquor. Not the same as a family surname indicating a certain brand of beer or wine. Tequila is simply Tequila.

So yes, it makes perfect sense that even the MOST open-minded person would be intelligent enough to see the folly in such a "name." Sorry.

Okay Tequila let' see what comes to mind if I were to met a woman named Tequila.....:
hooker
stripper
drag queen
Brandy is not a nice nam either to trashy for me...how about naming the kid something like, MaiTai(like the drink)....I know a girl named MaiTai and it's kind of cute. Stay away from names of liquor, if u like it that much how bout':
Don Jose or Jose Cuervo-Tequila
Jack Daniel(s)-Whiskey
Armadale-Vodka
Johnny Walker-Scotch
Phillip(s)-Gin

I got one, name ur kid Tom Collins!(no not really)

Ummmm...don't even think of having a kid if Tequila is the only name u can come up with!

Hmmm. Good question, I guess. I do not like Tequila as a name. I do like Brandy as a name. But I guess you have a point, since they ARE both drinks. I suppose I'll have to "not like Brandy" so as to not be hypocritical, eh?

**No, it's NOT cute, hon. Your daughter most likely will aspire to live somewhere other than your hick town. That is, if you name her something other than Tequila.

while brandy IS a type of drink, it also is a name... but tequila is JUST a drink.. if you name a baby that others are going to assume you are an alcoholic.. tequila would be a cute name for a dog though.
