ALL candidates from the outgoing incumbant presidents party do that. Gore did it, George Bush's father did it with the most popular president ever in this country. No matter how great he is (or how bad,,,depending on your opinion) if the same party candidate clings too much to the incumbant it looks like he is his clone, or the fear is that the public will perceive it as a continuation of the former pres, and Americans are very wary of a monopoly on the white house

Republican candidates do not want to be associated with the dipping popularity of Bush for fear of losing the 2008 elections.

if clinton was doing such a great job why did gore distance himself from clinton.

all presidential candidates have to distance themselves from their predecessors. they have to establish themselves as their own individual with their own ambitions. do the dems do any different?

Because the Democrats are not running on their own accomplishments, they are running against George Bush.
So, to make themselves more the subject of discussion, they are NOT running as George Bush.

For some reason, Bush is not sticking to the republican ideals and thats why they hate him. Also, any affiliation with bush now would lower their chances of getting elected

They are seek to establish their own identity and there is no advantage to linking up with a president in his final year of office who is polling as low as President Bush is.......but he is still polling higher than the Congress and Senate.

its obviously an attempt to reach the liberal whining left. i dont agree with it but a candidate must represent the clueless as well as the informed.
