Australia - Does the government pay tax?

Also does John Howard have a mortgage etc? Just wondering.

No the government doesn't.
John Howard has lived rent free for 11 years in Kirrabilli house. He does own a house or maybe 2 but i doubt he would have a morgage.

The government does not tax itself but the government officials must pay their taxes.
