Yes a capitalistic system does breed opportunity and Independence. I just can't figure out why most feminist prefer socialism/communism.

Wrong, RoVale. Capitalism, and democracy, both require a huge MIDDLE class to flourish (-- which is why neither will ever work in Iraq). Women would never have been able to infiltrate the workplace if the economy hadn't exploded after WWII -- there are many, many more jobs than there were in 1940, and women were usherer into the workplace. So economic growth via capitalism has allowed feminism to flourish.

That's definitely true when you compare the rights of women in capitalist America to the rights of women in Soviet Russia. I still believe that a mixed economy would be better for everyone.

only since the middle ages have women ALL over the world had unequal rights...
If you look at some ancient civilizations, women had the same rights and privilege in society as men... and those were monarchies...

You'd better not tell that to "the patriarchy."
Well women are outnumbering men in colleges...
Have affirmative action giving them a leg up in hiring...
Can shoot their husbands in the back while they sleep & not only get out of jail in 3 months, but also get custody of their children...
Have federally funded programs, scholarships, & colleges for "women only"
...But no, I'm really not sure what Camille means by that.

As a quote I make it out as a truism.
As part of an argument in re economic systems, political systems &etc., it lacks context.

A capatilistic system also requires a huge underclass to support a privileged few. This is exactly the type of system that exists in most 3rd World countries today. Since the vast majority of poor people in the world are women and children, it's only natural most of them wouldn't support such a system because it often means that some people are getting rich at their expense.
