Personally I still like Ultima Online. But on the free servers that are run by players. In fact, I like it even better.
There are now over 300 player run servers. They each have their own idea of what they feel is "wrong" with the paid servers. Some are totally Pkill. Some totally dont allow pkill. Some are based on previous versions of UO. Some have lots of gifts and goodies and easy gains. Others are harder than the original on gains and getting wealth. Some have been so totally modified that even though they play the same you would not recognize the maps and monsters.
I play on a really small shard that is adult-run, hard gains, no pkill (but they do have an arena for challenges), and its really quiet. There is actually wilderness that I can build a house and have no neighbors anywhere near me. But it still has enough players to get up a hunting party to do the champions.
