Some pediatricians recommend a clean dressing on until the penis is fully healed, while others advise leaving it off. The imp. thing is to keep the area as clean as possible. If particles of stool get on the penis, wipe it gently with soap & water during diaper changes. If the area look quite red and u may notice a yellow secretion, indicate that the area is healing. Within a week the redness and secretion should gradually disappear. If the redness persists or there is swelling or crusted yellow sores that contain cloudy fluid, there maybe an infection. This does not happen very often, but if u suspect that is present, consult your pediatrician.

If I remember correctly you have to change the gauze for a few weeks...at least till the redness and the swelling goes down. If you're not sure ask your pediatrician. But I remember with both of my sons I kept changing it with every diaper change for like 2 weeks. Congrats!!

once the gauze falls off you're not supposed to put anymore on. Thats what I was told, and thats what we did.
You keep the vaseline coated on it until the redness subsides.

I know there are different methods, my doc never said to use gauze. She said just put neosporin on it every time we changed him. I did this for about 4wks just to be safe. I would ask your Doc. but hope this helps!
