Ok, It seems that many people are saying the geforce 9 series is coming out in Nov. I wanted to upgrade my pc for Call of duty 4 when it comes out in Nov. I realy dont wantot have to pay 400+ for a 8800 gts and in a month the 9 series comes out. I want to upgrade my computer so it last me at LEAST 2 years. So what i wanted to do is upgrade my pc and then just get the 8600 gts for like 150. Now what i wanted to do is prob nov/dec i would want to get the 9800.

I would get like the Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz, good mother board, memory and so on. BUT I heard the geforce 9 series will not be using PCI Express x16 but a better kind of slot meaning i would need to buy new motherboard and possably memory and/or new cpu. SO if you happen to know anything about that please tell me! IF so i will just buy the best graphics card for like 150 and a little memory and wait till dec. PLEASE give all the info youi can give! THX

PCI-Express2 is twice as fast as PCI-ExpressX16.
ATI 2400 and 2600 cards are already PCI-E 2 and PCI-E 2 is backwards compatible with PCI-ExpressX16 slots:

Last rumors were Nov 12 for the cards but I dont go by what i hear. I just figure they will be out by Xmas as thats when they usually are released-in time for Santa Claus to spend money for them. I bought an XFX 640MB 8800GTS D4(fastest clocked GTS made) and, with the $40 dollar rebate and a free $40 game I was gonna buy anyway I figure I saved $80 and got the fastest GTS made delivered to my door for 318.99. That's good enough for me until my new build.
It flies thru the COD4 demo at max settings btw.

I used it to replace an ATI X1900XTX I paid 550 for (when they were the latest and greatest) so I can run DX10 in my 64bit Ultimate gaming rig. I build a new gaming rig for myself each Xmas but this year I'm waiting until the new 45nm quads come out at which time I'll put the baddest card in then.Thats the way it is with high end graphics cards --They're spendy. I suggest you put that 8600GT in for now then decide what you wanna do after the new cards come out and they have some reviews out for them. Nothing says the 9800 is going be the card to have. I actually think that ATI is going to have something to say about that. They have some pretty extreme cards in the works. Whatever card you buy I trust your power supply has ample watts and amps on the +12V rails.

They are not coming out in November or December, or anytime soon. This is simply a rumor that started from an online forum post, and has for some reason spread like wildfire. There is currently not even an estimated arrival date for the GeForce 9 series, so don't expect them anytime soon. The slot you are referring to is PCI Express 2.0, which is faster than current PCI Express. PCI Express 2.0 cards will be backwards compatible with current PCI Express slots.

Don't expect that graphic card to come out in time for COD 4. That graphic card could come out next year. I doubt that they will use a new slot, they aren't mainstream if they do have this new slot anyways.
