c subtracted from the sum of x and y?

If one of x is c, what is the other addand?

I am having a hard time trying to figure this out.
Help me!!!

( x + y ) + 3
The parentheses does the sum of x and y first. Then you add the 3.

( x + y ) - c
Same this as above, just you subtract another variable in place of the 3.

I don't understand your last question..

2. x+y-c

3. if x + ? = c, then the other addend would be (c-x)
