Piety is usually some religious practice which you do.
Awe of the Lord, is possibly the reason why you do this.
For Catholics, piety might be saying a rosary;
while awe is more like eucharistic adoration.

To me, the word piety connotes being fake, somehow. I don't know that it's the real definition of the word, but piety seems to be for show, where awe of the Lord would just be how you felt.

Awe is internal.
