I'm in law enforcement and say, Yes, with some stipulations. Those being that only seeds are sold. The user grows only enough for their own use. The marijuana be used only in their home or a very non public setting. Any sales and the person loses any right to use in the future, gets prison and fines.

I voted for legalized medical marijuna which was legalized in Oregon. But I now oppose that. The problem being that everyone with a medical marijuana growing permit is growing extra for sale. Often making well over $250,000 annually and selling to anyone who wants it at $400 to $1500 per ounce.

I don't deny and believe marijuna is a gatway drug. But not the drug itself but people profiting from sales. In itself, marijuna is much less harmfull than alcohol. A driver under its influence is actually safer than sober, though actually overly cautious and under speed limit. But marijuna with alcohol makes a driver much worse than alcohol alone.

But it's a total waste of resources to lock a user up in prison for using it. Prison costing $24,000 to $35,000 annually. And it would free police and courts to deal more with serious offences.

George Washington grew and smoked it as well as several other US Presidents up to criminalization, possibly after? Marijuna like alcohol is simply unenforcable. Like Prohibition, it only makes matters worse.

Based on the fact that it is essentially no worse than alcohol and that a marijauna user is nowhere near the threat to society that a crack, meth,or heavy drinking persons are. The fact that nearly a million people a year are arrested for marijauna (most all of these are for small amounts) when there is a meth epidemic in many parts of the country is a joke. Police officers should be spending their time dealing with real criminals instead. Alas, because of politics, and the unbending argument in their eyes that marijuana is a "dangerous" drug, it never will be legalized. The closest you can come to legalization is some of the western states such as Oregon or California. Sale and growth is still illegal in these states, although if you can acquire a card you can grow for yourself.

Yes, so many studies have been done that show that there is no immediate harmful effects or any reason that it should be banned. There has never been one AND I REPEAT one case of marijuana killing someone, sure indirectly like DUI's but not one death directly. Studies show that in the long-term, users can develop paranoia and some cases of short term memory loss, minor scitsophrenia(sp) as well. But hey alcohol causes lots more problems and its legal. Marijuana causes relaxation of the muscles and can be useful for other forms of medical complications, AS SUCH EXAMPLE is provided why it is perscribed by clinics and hospitals in such states as California.

Yes.

For the revenue it would generate and the savings in law enforcement costs.

Cost/benefit aspect is a no brainer.

For those who still believe that pot is a gateway drug for youth, I submit alcohol is the gateway to all drugs.

I had my first beer long before my first joint.

Wisely, I abandoned alcohol but pot has been a mainstay for 40 years. I still function.

I'd willingly go down to the North Carolina ABC and Marijuana store for a 100 dollar carton of joints knowing full well that 75 dollars is tax. I'm willing to voluntarily contribute my tax dollars especially if I know my contribution won't come back to haunt me in the form of arrest for using in my own home.

yes I do believe it should be legal. The benefits of marijuana are endless. As far as it being a gateway drug, I believe it all depends on the person. That person would probably have began using heavier drugs without or without marijuana. I think it is all about weighing your pro's and con's. Medically marijuana is better for you then any pain medication. It has been proven over and over again with chemo patience. People who believe this wonderful plant put on this earth to help us is an evil object have been corrupted by the media and the government and need to open there minds.

Yes, the two drugs at are legal cause more deaths than Marijuana would if it was legal. So many people die because of Alcohol related accidents and alcohol poisoning, also both alcohol and cigarettes carry addictive tendencies, although some would argue that marijuana is addictive, it has never been proven in laboratories that it has any kind of addictive component. Personally, i think it is the safest drug out there, including those that are legal.

EDIT: also by legalizing it would make it required to be governmently regulated. Many of the problems with marijuana right now is the extras the cut into it. If the government regulated it, it would eliminate those secondary drugs found in marijuana today.

Yes, I have no problem with the legalization and taxation of marijuana. It should be put in the same classification as alcohol.

Alcohol is a controlled substance, we control who can have, when they can have and where they can have it. Marijuana is an uncontrolled substance, it can be had by anyone, anywhere, anytime. So, I say make marijuana a real controlled substance, legalize it!!!

Alcohol isn't a drug? Then why is it so regulated by the federal government?

Tobacco isn't a drug? Then why is it so regulated by the federal government?

Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms. Okay, guns aren't a drug. But they tried making booze illegal. Saw how well that worked. Now they're trying it with tobacco.

And 75 years of trying to outlaw the other drugs hasn't exactly eliminated them, nor even reduced their usage. Does anyone REALLY think, with the ready availability of them, that usage would go up even MORE? Them that want 'em are already getting 'em. That's why the DEA is STILL in business.

Of course.

Marijuana is far safer than alcohol, tobacco, or many of the designer medications advertised on prime time television. This isn't even debatable. Anyone who doesn't want to accept this simple fact can do a 5 minute Google search and find out that I'm right.

No it shouldn't. It may be a good laugh and a joke when you first have a few joints but it's the long term affects that are to really worry about. An old friend of mine started smoking it a few years ago, her attitude has completely changed as she smokes it alot. She is really paranoid now and is very edgy. She also looks constantly washed out and scruffy. I wouldn't even call her a friend anymore, i barely know her now, i just see her at work. I know it's the maruana that's done it to her because she was nothing like that before she started smoking it. I know a few people that have changed due to taking the stuff, it isn't nice! I'm staying well away from it!

Thumbs down me all you like, you'll see in a few years time when it's legalised and everyone starts turning into zombies, you'll wish it never had been made legal! Trust me. I've witnessed the effects.
