Do you have anything that is sleeveless that you really like?? If so turn it inside out and pin it to your fabric. Cut your pattern off this to the lenght you want and sew away. If you are afraid to cut like this cut out the pattern using newspaper.

Well, you can go to your local fabric department and they will have pattern books there. Look for something that says "quick and Easy" or Kwik Sew. they will work up faster. Talk to the sales people at the store. Someone there should be able to steer you in the right direction. If you are not a reallly curvy gal, you could make your own basic camisole by making a tube of fabric wide enough to go around you comfortably. Keep n mind you will need to be able to stretch and bend and move. You will pull this over your head and wear it right under your arms across your upper chest. Then you need to attach straps to it. Find a girl friend and have her help you position straps on it and just sew them on.

Hope this helps!

Satin's not the fabric I'd start you off on as a beginner -- it can be more than a bit fussy to cut and sew.

I'd send you to Jan Bone's book, Lingerie Secrets, Karen Morris' Sewing Lingerie that Fits, or the KwikSew book Beautiful Lingerie.
I believe the KS book is probably most suitable for a beginner.

Cut the satin on paper and keep it as flat as possible until all seams are sewn.

In the fabric store, they will have books of patterns. Look in the lingerie section of each book. The patterns are marked high, but they often cost only a dollar or two. There will be lots of choices.
