Now that Jones put Bergeron's career in jeopardy, that makes 3 serious incidents involving Flyers' players. I think the NHL should smack that management with fines, take away draft choices, and potential have them forfeit games where they rack up certain amount of penalty minutes. Other ideas?

Yeah, the two macho men sitting behind computers who have never played organized hockey are calling others sissy. Perfect. Obviously you don't know hockey.

We don't have curling here...we play "macho" sports.

I defintely believe the Flyer management plays a part here. I am NOT saying the condone it, nor that they promote it...but the team drafts, trades and keeps players they feel fit in with their philosophy. Jones's was an accident, but it adds into the image...and the other two goons set the image. And I disagree with those of you who say that the Boullerice and Downie plays were reactions, not premeditated.

3rd nasty hit this year...unbelieveable. Good thing Jones only has a broken nose and concussion. Could have been alot worse. Time for the coach to go...if he can't control his players, he shouldn't be on the league.

Management? Drafts and trades? Downey was signed on Clarkie's watch and Boulerice on Holmgren's. While both had reputations of being "loose canons", there was no way to anticipate such reckless and irresponsible play so early in the season..and I will say on Boulerice's behalf that if you saw a few of the previous shifts, Kessler was vigorously goading Boulerice to react . It's just unfortunate that he hit Kessler so high.

Today's incident was no more than coincidental poor decision making by both players. There was no bad track record or obvious malicious intent on Jones' part.

Nothing. Hockey is a physical and emotional game, and incidents like this are the individual's responsibility. To say that Jones' irresponsible hit on Bergeron was condoned or that he was coached into making that decision is absolutely ridiculous.

Neither one of these incidents were premeditated, a la the Bertuzzi incident; they were all split second decisions at speed during a game. How is that a management problem?

I've played hockey (professionally), seen over 15,000 gameas at the junior level and above, and I saw no premeditation in any of the three hits.

Downie intended to hit McAmmond hard, nobody is denying that. Players are taught to focus on their hits in junior, which is what Downey did. Subconsciously his feet came off the ground (and believe me it happens)

Same with the Boulerice hit. Boulerice cross-checked Kesler and just happened to hit Kesler in the face. In the heat of the moment, players don't always realize that they are armed and dangerous, and things can get out of hand. Players cross-check one another all the time, very few of them sit there and say..."don't check him in the face...don't check him in the face" nor is the human adrenaline rush designed for that. Boulerice was thinking, check Kesler as he comes from behind the net and knock him on his keester...had Boulerice's stick not caught Kesler in the face, nothing more would have been made of it.

Personally, I don't think that Holmgren or Stevens are telling their players to take dirty hits.

Taking draft choices may be a bit extreme. And forfeiting games seems like it could get a bit ridiculous.

I say fines for serious incidents. And have the fines will double with every incident that happens. Also, harsh suspensions for each player that commits the serious incident, whether it's half a season, a whole season, whatever.
