Im trying to connect my Dazzle DVD recorder to my TV. What am I doing wrong?

Ok Im trying to use this Dazzle to record my xbox playing sessions. I have AV cables plugged into the dazzle and into one port of my tv. I have my xbox plugged into another. Apparently Im doing sumthin wrong because the dazzle isnt finding anything to record. I need help

perhaps the output of xbox is protected by macrovision, so you can't record it.
