Is his enclosure big enough for him to stretch out in without his tail touching? That could be the problem. He could have contact damage to his tail caused by constant contact with the sides of his enclosure.

Apparently the Dragon injured itself in the enclosure, possibly with another Dragon or because the living space is too small. The tail will come off on its own. If there is swelling associated with the wound, apply a small amount of Neosporin or Bacitracin. The cage should be kept clean to prevent infection, if this has not already occurred. The end of the tail most likely will not regrow, if it does, will be stubby.

Sorry to tell you this, but your cage is way too small. an adult bearded dragon needs at least a 40 gallon tank. That might be the problem, he probably doesn't have room to stretch out.

hi there
OK some how it injured it's self or another beardie did ... if it smells like rotten meat &/or wet looking then most likely tail rot and u need to get it up to a vet .asap if not the infection can go through the blood and kill it (we had a rescue that it came to us and was too late he die) other then that just use antibiotic cream on the the place till it heals...
it will never grow back they can not grow back like Iggy gecko... beardies don't have the regeneration gene...
hope this helps.....

they grow new tails when removed. sometimes they just fall off or it gets injured so it makes a new segment. this is common on many species, its nothing to worry about really. as long as his condition dosn't deteriorate, which i dont think it will.
