They feel as though they have failed. Most teachers devote their entire lives to, well, teaching. That is why they work so hard for so little pay. It's something that most people will never understand. To them, a young mind is the ultimate machine...capable of absolutely anything. However, being a teenager, rather than fill their head with useful knowledge, most choose to pursue other interests. Teachers know that life holds very little for those who do not have that little paper called a degree. A student who drops out is basically destined to forever be a nothing.....you'll flip burgers on and off, be between jobs, and age much more rapidly than if you went to college. But there is nothing that they can do about it. . .

Because they see the consequences of not having a minimum education, as do I.
The amount of jobs available to high school dropouts is limited.
No diploma/ GED= non disciplined, drug/alcohol abuse and illiteracy.
The before mentioned items cost companies millions of dollars in lost wages and replacing/training new employees. The only reason I can think for a person to drop out is; if they are really bored and can rapidly pass the GED and start college. Not many can do this feat.

Because when a student drops out of school they have failed. And some teachers take their jobs very seriously and personally.

Because they know that that student is now going to struggle for the rest of their lives for everything that they want. High school graduates earn much more than drop-outs- and college educated people earn much more than high school graduates. So, if you want to work 50 to 60 hours per week hauling, lifting, bending, carrying, wiping, mopping, sweating and scurrying- drop out. It's assured.

A good teacher would feel like they failed in their job. And they know how much harder it will be for the student to succeed in today's society. THEY CARE

Teaching is their career and they probably feel they have let that student down. They need to make it interesting for the kids and then they might stay.
