if not, then why do so many Americans think that a war with the likes of Russia or China is winnable?

There are still Russian ballistic missile subs sitting off our coast as we speak, really nothing has changed.

right?

We have nuclear subs sitting in Russian and Chinese waters as well most likely. Look, the entire idea of MAD won't end until every single nuclear weapon on the planet is destroyed and the knowledge of how to build them lost.

Of Course. We totally out spent the Russians and had better technology. Russia was a third world country at the time with nukes. We have not see than last of them as a global annoyance. Putin is KGB though and though and will never be on the side of NATO. Russian and China are opportunists and will sell and say anything to slight the US. Hey, that sounds a little like the liberals in Congress, doesn't it? You supposed they are talking to one another? Makes you think, huh? If it looks like duck, and walks like a duck, it must be a...?

you've got 30 minutes to live. it is a joke that the end of the cold war eliminated the MAD threat. most of the missiles are still in place in the united states and russia. americans are stupid to allow their government to invade counties such as iraq on the premise of weapons of mass destruction, where none were proved to exist. your government had other reasons to invade, likely they wanted to control the oil. remember without oil they are not a so called super power. now it seems an invasion of iran is planned. but the cowards in the military will likely go in using remotely controlled aircraft. what is wrong with iran having nuclear weapons? that rogue state israel has nuclear weapons.

Not entirely. MAD was achieved sometime around 1972. The Cold War didn't end until the collapse of the Soviet Empire in 1991.

I guess we're hoping that the mutually assured destruction of using nuclear technology will prevent anyone from going there. And then there's the missile defense system that we have built that we hope would keep us safe.

Why? Do you know where our ballistic missle subs are?

Right, neither do they :)

And with our new european missle defense shield, we're getting even more insurance.

At least that'd be a straight up war. Clear objectives, supply lines, troop movements. Just point and shoot. None of this "is he Iraqi or Insurgent?" "Don't shoot unless shot at" crap.
