To conservatives, "supporting the troops" means putting them in harm's way, forever. It means not providing enough health and mental care to them when they come home. It means declaring PTSD a pre-existing condition so they can't get treatment at the VA. Just like on most issues, like support for the family, conservatives talk about supporting the troops when in reality they couldn't care less about them. When they say "Support the Troops!" what they mean is "Support the President, as long as he's a Republican."

More importantly, the military is a tool of the Republic, and should be used to execute the civilian leadership's policies. No political leader should hide behind soldiers to support bad policy decisions.

Do you listen to the troops?

If so, I am a 21 year military officer with three tours in Iraq. I think we should be there and I think we are making progress.

Now what?

Obviously you only listen to the troops when it suits your political agenda. You're pathetic.

They would rather attack the source as not credible even though the story is told in the words of the soldiers, attack you, question your patriotism, put words in your mouth and apparntly even read your mind. New day, SOS.

The Washington Post is a rag, not good for toilet paper. I listen to the troops. I support the troops. I am a conservative. The people in the military are trained and paid to obey orders. The rank and file does not get paid to think.
