No! It's a political belief, not a spiritual one.

Communism is a political philosophy, but it is sometimes practiced as a religion. In modern history, this was encouraged, and continues to be encouraged, because the various states who espouse a communistic form of government, are universally anti-religion.
These states believe that the government is the source of all that is good, so there is no room left for God. In addition, history teaches that if you allow a strong church presence, sooner or later, they will come into conflict with the government. Therefore it is simpler to get rid of religion altogether.
Because there is an absence of religion in these countries, the people will gravitate to the source or potential source of their well being, the government. They will protect and defend it with the fervor of true believers, because there is nothing else to believe in. And, we as humans need something to believe in.

No... Nor does atheism.
But while political stances are not religious, religions ARE political!
But most countries' stated political philosophy is different than their real one...
America says its a "democracy." But its really a commercial republic...
China claims to be "communist" but it seems to be a despotic theocracy.
Its getting harder and harder to distinguish between politics and religion because of the psychological and cultural changes that have come as a result of technological progress. Science has replaced most of the answers that were once explained by religious doctrine, and opinions are shaped more by the media, (whatever form it may take, printed materials, or in the U.S. television and radio,) than by dogma.

I tell you the truth!
When I grew up in China as a little girl I was taught to sing that Chairman Mao "Live for Million years"!
He was made a god for the people!
There was no room for Confucius or Budda of Lao Tsu.
Only Mao and the Party. It was a religion and is today because they are afraid of Falon Gong too!

communism doesnt work in ways of spiritualism the way other religions do. Sure the whole idea of communism is to share everything but thats a way to run a country, not a way to wun your personal life. Theres also no organized "god" for communism, it is a belief on how things should be ran.

Communists are anti-religion. It is a political philosophy. The original Soviets and the Chinese did what they could to get rid of religion.
A better argument might be made about Islam. It appears to be a political philosophy masquerading as religion.

Religion implies belief in something spiritual or otherwordly. Communism is based in ethics and real-world conditions without any spiritual dimension, and it generally denounces religion as impractical and misleading. So Communism is definitely not religion!
