I was able to connect 3 weeks ago. I have since brought a new router (Buffalo) which is supposedly compatible with Vista and yet has problems installing the drivers. I have a usb adapter again supposedly compatible with Vista, yet fails to install properly "Windows encountered a problem... and then Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it. The device I am using is Buffalo WLI-U2-KG54L. Can anyone give me any ideas?

Hope so Thanks

OK, not sure which product you want help with?

Your router or your USB adapter?
For the USB adapter the newest drivers are available for your Vista OS go to
http://www.buffalo-technology.com/support/downloads/
and enter the "Wireless G Keychain Adapter" There are divers there which specifically state "VISTA" - get them!

As far as the router. Routers don't know and don't care WHAT OPERATING SYSTEM YOU USE! You can set them up directly from a Web Browser Window in ANY OPERATING SYSTEM (linux, vista, xp, MacOS, Unix it does not matter.) If you have trouble with the CD setup - don't use it!

With MOST Buffalo routers, you connect the router to your computer with an ethernet cable power on the router then your computer. WAIT for both to boot. Then open Internet Explorer. (It will show an error page, that is fine.)

Then in the ADDRESS BAR type http://192.168.11.1 (this is the default IP for MOST Buffalo units) (CHECK YOUR PAPERWORK for the one for yours.) You will get a "login" screen. Just enter the word "root" (with out the quotes) in the username and leave the password field blank. You will then be at the routers configuration screen! You can then setup your PPPoE or DHCP or whatever information for your internet connection. You can then setup the Wireless system etc. Once you get it all working, you can then connect with your wireless adapter.

DON'T EVEN THINK OF TRYING TO CONFIGURE A ROUTER FROM WIRELESS UNLESS YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING! You usually can not get that to work! Use the ethernet cable that is supplied with the router to configure your router.

Get the Quick Setup Guide and Owners Manuals for your router.

If you wish to restore settings to factory defaults, press the INIT button on the bottom of the AirStation for 15 seconds.
Do not let go of the INIT button until the red DIAG lights up or fl ashes. The restore process can take up to two minutes.

Welcome to the problematic world of Vista....way too over secure and causing more and more problems such as this.

In my opinion go back to XP seeing as how all the eye candy goodies that attract ppl to Vista can all be added to an XP machine. Microsoft will have to support XP for at leasat another 5 years giving them plenty of time to work out the bugs in this new operating system.

From what I truly have seen, it style of feels to be extra of a merchandising factor. think of roughly it, modems promote that they are able to pass at 56k yet on your pc it says 7. There are 8 bits in a byte. The modem container reads fifty six thousands bits in keeping with 2d on a similar time as your pc reads it in bytes or 7 bytes in keeping with 2d. So if I take 2MB and divide it via 8 i'm getting .250 and cases it via a thousand i'm getting 250k/s.

Get rid of the router and go back to to ethernet or USB. I have yet to get a router to work.
