Has anyone had problems selecting a different thumbnail screenshot from the one You Tube has picked? For the second time, they have selected one of my (text) captions, on a plain coloured background, instead of a picture image! They say you can select a different thumbnail by clicking on your choice in the 'edit video' page ... but this is clearly not working! According to You Tube, this process can take up to 6hrs; the previous edit took 2 weeks! ... and it looks as if my current one is following suit! I don't want to shorten my video in any way. Am I the only one with this problem?

No you aren't the only one that has noticed that, it happens to some of us others.
One option is to set the video to private until the thumbnail you have chosen (and SAVED - don't forget to save after changing thumbnail) changes like it should. Also...keep refreshing your video page...some times your browsers cache keeps the old thumbnail in store and shows you that instead of the new one.

if your talking about change the thumbnail of a video then you:
- go on youtube.com; log in
- click on my account
- my videos
- a side from the video you want to change the thumbnail of click on Video Edit Info
- then at the top click on wat ever video still you want
- scroll down and click on edit video info in about a day it would be done
If your talking about change your own display image it would be from one of your video stills

If your talking about your profile image
- go on website
- click on My acount
- click on Channel Design
- scroll down to Advanced Design Customization
- keep going... to Background Image (URL)
- put in your image URL and hit update channel check your profile to see if it worked
