This is not just your average scared, she gets frightened almost to tears even few days after watching some flick that was not even that scary (e.g. Pan's Labyrinth)... and its not even a real thing she may be scared of. She knows this is a problem, but nothing she doesn't seem to be able to control it and convince herself not to be scared... has anyone ever had a similar problem and how did you deal with it? Her problem really is just her vivid imagination (cause she gets this not just from movies, but from news, books, etc.)

My girlfriend (25) doesn't get just your average jumpy scared, she gets frightened almost to tears even few days after watching some flick that was not even scary (e.g. Pan's Labyrinth)... she is afraid of getting out of bed at night to go to the bathroom. She knows this is a problem- wants to fix it, but cannot convince herself not to be scared of really ridiculous things. Has anyone ever had a similar problem and how did you deal with it? Her problem really is just her vivid imagination (cause she gets this not just from movies, but from news, books, etc.)... She is not paranoid, just simply uncomfortable with her thoughts... I really want to help her because I hate seeing her like that, especially if I cannot be with her at the time.

SCARY MOVIES ARE NOT THE PROBLEM... we don't even watch scary movies!!! I used Pan's Labyrinth as an example for a reason, it is fairy tale - and last night she had a hard time falling asleep cause of one of the characters....

First of all, why is your girlfriend going to see these scary movies that she seems to hate so much? Is she really going voluntarily, or is she going just because you want to see them? If you are the one who is talking her into seeing them, then there is a really obvious answer: STOP TRYING TO GET HER TO SEE THESE MOVIES WITH YOU!

If she really does want to see these movies, then the cure is still the same. She needs to stop watching them.

This reminds me of a familiar joke. A man goes to see a doctor and says, "Doctor, every time I raise my arm, it hurts." The doctor responds, "Then stop raising your arm!"

I would analyze the movie and try to find the purpose of the director and the producer to show the fear in this movie.
Once I try to think on behalf of the director and the story writer and if I find a purpose in the movie and if I like it, I will appreciate the showing of such a movie; and it if is just scare like Halloween costumes, I will let it pass and go to sleep.
The problem comes to play in our mind if we identify with the movie and lose a sense of reality.

I've stopped watching scary movies. Now if I could find a way to avoid the IRS and be independently wealthy such as that I had no bills, I'd get a good night's sleep.

Sometimes when I wake up from a really bad dream I can't get back to sleep for thinking about it.

I found the only way to get it out of my head is to get up and have a cold drink, go to the toilet, do something that keeps you up for a minute and requires some amount of consciousness!! By the time I get back to bed I have usually cleared my head and I'm able to get back to sleep without any further bad dreams.

I realise that your GF prob has it a lot worse than me but it's worth a try...

I find it amazing that you consider this to be "a problem" or "her problem". Are you that committed to seeing scary movies that you need to find some kind of a cure for your girlfriend so that you can go see ... more scary movies?

Find some nice chick flicks to take her to and reserve the scary movie nights for you and your male friends.

Magnesium can calm the nerves, especially if the fear is keeping her up at night.

Can be taken as tablet or in a fizzy drink.

My only advise is to ,,, And I say this to you ! ,, try to not let her see these , some people are sensitive , respect her sensitivity , do your best to protect her from these little nightmares , that you are not having one of the reasons that she is so atractive to you is because of her personality , don't change her into somebody that is less sensitive.....word of Advice ,she'll be harder to love,
