seriously why do they have whack spellings for words?

Eh... I'd assume that the spellings of English words like 'litre' instead of 'liter' are just as bizarre to us Americans as the reverse is for others.

I'd be particularly interested in whether the pronunciation of the word follows the change in spelling.

Spelling just changed in America. That's just the way we spell things. We also spell "colour" like "color" and we take the "s" out of "maths." I guess it's just a regional difference.

well there r 2 ways 2 spell things. there is the uk way n the us way. my friend who is from the uk told me this so its just the different cultures i guess.

why do brits spell center like centre? i mean, you say it like sent-er, not sent-tree!!!!!! nothing against brits, thought, england is awesome!!! :D
