i guess that it because we are too close to the heart of the matter and we are too emotionally involved. with other people we can be more detached and logical.

Because its harder when we are emotionally involved. People have habits that they just cant break, whether its being unable to leave a spouse, getting a new job etc. People are creatures of habit and it takes a lot of guts to break the routine.
