I always stop and remember because my Great Great Uncle died aged 22 on the 1st July 1916 on the Somme, he has no known grave and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial on the Somme. This year his name along with many others will be available on a database at the visitors centre there, two wonderful volounteers are taking their own time to log every name that is on there and get information and photos.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Allingham this link is to an article about our oldest living veteran. I have seen him on tv many times and at 111 years old he still visits schools and tells the children about his war experiences.

I am proud to call myself British when I read about these men and if it wasn't for them our world would be a very different place.

I always observe the 2 minute silence no matter where I am as I'm ex-forces and had friends who died in N. Ireland and the Falklands. My grandfather was gassed in the trenches in WW1 but survived. I can't begin to imagine the horror they must have witnessed.

And doesn't Harry look great for 109!

yes we must remember them as they gave up so much for our country. My grandfather fought in WW1 and he died when I was a small child; Harry reminds me of how I remember my own grandfather = True Heroes

Yes, this man risked his life to keep this country free from our enemies. My grandfather fought in WW1 as well, but he passed on some years ago aged 89.

Yes, God bless Harry and all like him. I think especially of George, killed on his 19th birthday. At least Harry has had a good long life, unlike George and 1000's like him. R.I.P.
