multiply the two top numbers together; then multiply the bottoms by each other; then divide the bottom number into the top.

1/5 x 20/1 =
a. 1 X 20 = 20
b 5x 1 = 5
c 20 divided by 5 = 4
ans is four

and

Convert 8 3/7 to a improper fraction: multiply the denominator by the whole number, then add the numerator to the result. Take the result and use it as your new numerator, and keep the denominator the same.

a 8 X 7 = 56
b. 56 + 3 = 59
c. 59 is your new numerator and 7 is still your denominator.
d ans is 59/7

mixed number to improper fraction is pretty easy to get.
Your fraction is 8 3/7. 7 would mean there are 7 parts for every whole number. 8 is your whole number. So do 8 X 7, which would give you 56. then since you have the left over 3 from 3/7, you just add that to 56.

8 3/7= 8 X 7 + 3= 59/7

For multiplying fractions just go straight accros and do numerator x numerator and denominator x denominator
numerator= 1 and 20, top of the fraction
denominator= 5 and 1, bottom

So, 1 x 20 / 5 x 1 would be your answer, or when fully done, 20/5

When multiplying fractions like 1/5 x 20/1 you can technically assume this is 1/5 x 20 because 20/1 = 20, and 1/5 of 20 is 4, so that one is easier than most.

Lets say you had 3/7 x 10/21 though, what you have to do is multiply the top and you get 30, and multiply the bottom and you get 147, then divide 30/147 and you get your answer.

For converting mixed numerals into improper fractions:
Take the whole number 8 and multiply it by 7/7 because 8 whole numbers means that there are 8 total 7/7s, so you would get 56/7, then you have 3/7 left over, so add that to 56/7, and you get 59/7.

Basically Multiply whole number x denominator, and then add the fractions.

Hope that helped.

Multiplying fractions:

1/5 x 20/1

Let's rearrange this.

1 x 20
5 x 1

Now, multiply the top part.

1 x 20 = 20
5 x 1

Now, multiply the bottom part.

1 x 20 = 20
5 x 1 = 5

That would mean: 20/5.

If you simplify 20/5 you get 4.
------------------------------
Convert a mixed numeral into an improper fraction:

8 3/7

Rearrange this to:

8 3
7

First, you multiply the whole number (8) times the denominator (bottom part of the fraction=7).

8 x 7 = 56

Then, you add what you get (56) to the numerator (3).

56 + 3 = 59

Then, you make what you get (59) the numerator (top part of a fraction) and the original denominator (7) is still the denominator (7).

59/7
------------------------------
Hope that helped.

a) 1/5 x 20/1 = 1/5 x 20 (cos 20 divided by 1 is 20) So 20 x 1/5= 20/5= 4
(1/5 x 20/1= times the top numbers together and times the bottom numbers together= 1x20/5x1= 20/5= 4)

b) Mixed number: 8 3/7
Work out how many fractions (7ths in this sum) there are in 8 (In 1 there are 7 so in 8 there are 8 lots of 7= 8 x 7 =56) Then add this to the 3/7 you already have. 56+3= 59/7

To Multiply Fractions:

* Multiply the numerators of the fractions
* Multiply the denominators of the fractions
* Place the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators
* Simplify the Fraction

Example: Multiply 2/9 and 3/12

* Multiply the numerators (2*3=6)
* Multiply the denominators (9*12=108)
* Place the product of the numerators over the product of the denominators (6/108)
* Simplify the Fraction (6/108 = 1/18)
*
* The Easy Way. It is often simplest to "cancel" before doing the multiplication. Cancelling is dividing one factor of the numerator and one factor of the denominator by the same number.
* For example: 2/9 * 3/12 = (2*3)/(9*12) = (1*3)/(9*6) = (1*1)/(3*6) = 1/18

and the other one just 7x8= 56 then add 3 =58 so then you just put the 58 as the numerator and 7 for denominator.

mutiplying fractions: multiply two top numbers and two bottom ones

1/5 x 20/1 = (1 x 20) / (5 x1) = 20/5 = 4/1 = 4 (cancelling by 5). For mixed numerals, write the number in terms of a fraction with the same denominator. Here, the fraction is in terms of (something)/7, so we write, 8=56/7. So,

8 3/7 = 56/7 + 3/7 = 59/7

for the first problem you mutlipy the denominator (the nuber at the bottom) by the other denominator.Then you times the numerator (the top number) by the other numerator. To help you here is an example

6/3 x 4/5= 24/15 3 x 5= 15 6 x 4= 24

For the second problem times the whole number by the denominator and add it to the numerator. Here is an example:

4 1/2= 9/2 4 x 2= 8 8+1=9

Hope that explains it well enough

1/5 x 20/1
there are several ways
multiply the tops together across
1x20 / 5 x 1 = 20 / 5 = 4
if you can simplify further but this answer is already simplified so that is your answer.

8 3/7
imagine you have 8 pizzas +3/7 of another pizza.
butt each pizza into 7 equal slices.
how many slices do you have in total?
8 pizzas with 7 slices each = 8*7slices = 56
+ the loose 3 other slices = 56+3 = 59
so
8 3/7 = 59/7

Multiply one numerator by the other put that on top. Multiply one denominator by the other put that on bottom. There's your ratio. It's that easy. Check example below. 1 3 1 × 3 = 3 -- × -- = --- 2 4 2 × 4 = 8
