Yes, I'm not a chemist... but I do like chemistry. I'd like it even more if it wasn't so intricate with so many unnecessary distinctions to make between stuff! But anyway, I'm doing a chemical reactions unit and it's not THAT bad, there's single displacement, double displacement, synthesis and decomposition... I just got lost when we brought in combustion and sorta got neutralization. I have some chem. problems here, can anyone explain them to me? I know the rxns but I just don't get combustion and whether they're aqeuous or not. Here:
1.) Acetic Acid + Sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) = ?
2.) Copper wire in flame makes...?
3.) Mg + lead II nitrate makes...?
4.) hydrochloric acid + sodium hydroxide= ?
5.) lead II nitrate + potassium iodide=?
6.) copper II sulfate + iron=?
7.) copper II sulfate pentahydroxide in flame makes...?!

Is hydrogen aqueous? Is iron? Is Mg? And when is it a gas or liquid? Can you balance the eqns. too plz?

Thanx for your help!

Aqueous means that something is dissolved in water. H2 gas is not aqueous, nor is Mg., a solid.

CH3COOH + NaHCO3---> CO2(g) +CH3COONa(aq) +H2O(l)
Cu gives a blue greenflame
Mg +Pb(NO3)2---> Mg(NO3)2 + Pb{ you need to check this one on a reaction table to see if it will react.}
HCl +NaOH--->NaCl +H2O neutralization, this is aqueous
2KI +Pb(NO3)2---> PbI2(s) +2KNO3 , PbI2 is used in yellow paint
CuSO4 +Fe--->FeSO4 +Cu
Cu in a flame is bluegreen

2) look up flame ionization, my memory says green, but its something you study for quizes, ect.

3) unless lead II oxidizes Mg then nothing happens, check for this.

4) the words acid and hydroxide should suggest neutralization Sodium Chloride in solution and water, also is suggested in problem 1 to form sodium acetate and CO2 and water.

5) Lead Iodide is not very soluble and will ppt out leaving KNO3 in solution

6) iron is oxidized and copper++ is reduced to copper, but what is iron oxidized to? check the half cell reactions in the table of your chemistry book

7) same color as cu in flame (i guess)

1.) HC2H3O2 + NaHCO3 ===> NaC2H3O2 + CO2 + H2O
2.) Green flame
